Surfaces and Preparation

Suitable Surfaces: Include the vast majority of interior walls, ceilings and woodwork, e.g. plaster, plasterboard, masonry, brickwork, old sound emulsion paint and woodchip or similar wallpapers.
Naturepaint is NOT suitable for direct application in permanently damp areas or onto waterproof surfaces such as plastics, melamine & high gloss paintwork.

Walls and Ceilings: Remove any loose material, and clean to remove dust and grease. If surface is damp or mildewed then remedy the cause and allow to dry thoroughly. Seal old dark stains and strong colours with a suitable blocker. Prime highly absorbent surfaces with a coat of Casein Primer and allow to dry for 24 hours.

Woodwork: Naturepaint works best on smooth bare wood. Previously painted woodwork must be thoroughly cleaned and lightly sanded. (Caution: Paints applied before 1980 may contain Lead. Do not sand. Seek professional advice)

Coverage: Each 400gm packet makes an average of 1 litre of Naturepaint, to cover 10-12 sq.m or two coats on one wall of an average room. Five 400gm packets are recommended for rooms with a perimeter of c. 40-48 ft (c.12-14m.) allowing for doors & windows. Check pack label for precise amounts.
Mix the total number of sachets required in one batch to avoid colour differences.

Mixing and Applying

Equipment: You will need an ample sized bowl or bucket (at least twice the volume you intend to mix); a measuring jug, a spatula, damp cloths for any spills and a suitable whisk (e.g. Hand or Electric Whisk, an ElectricDrill with a Paint Mixer or even a Kitchen Blender for smaller quantities)
N.B.: Take appropriate precautions when using any electrical appliances near water or liquids & keep away from children.

Measure: For each 400gm pack of Naturepaint measure 600ml (1.1 pints) of warm, but not boiling, tap water into your container, remembering that the final volume will increase to approximately 1 litre.

Whisk Briskly: Whilst whisking, pour the entire contents of each sachet into the water and mix well for 2-3 minutes. Scrape sides and base of container with spatula to mix in any dry powder and whisk again for 2 minutes ensuring any lumps are broken up and dispersed. Then leave for 30 minutes. Surface bubbling is normal and harmless. After 30 minutes mix again to ensure any sediment is incorporated.

Applying:  Pour required amount into smaller container or paint tray and apply with brush, roller or Naturepaint Pads. Mix the bulk container periodically to ensure minerals do not settle out. Naturepaint normally dries to the touch in 2 hours and can be coated again after 8 hours. Most surfaces will require two coats for completeness.

Note: The colour of dry Naturepaint powder and the liquid mix varies from the finished dry colour shown on our shade cards. Natural streaking and variations in paint colour during application are caused by different absorption levels on under surfaces and will even out during the drying process.

Note that Naturepaint gradually increases its natural protective capabilities in the 2 weeks following application.

Finishing and Disposal

Other Finishes: For translucent stippling, glazing or rag rolling with thinned topcoats of Naturepaint mix one 400gm pack with up to 1.5 litres of water. For thick stencilling paint, mix one 400gm pack with 400 ml of water.

Cleaning: Wash all tools, brushes and containers immediately after use. Wash splashes from clothes before paint dries. Naturepaint Pads can be cleaned, or stored without washing in a sealed plastic bag during breaks and reused afterwards with the same colour paint.

Storage: Use all liquid Naturepaint within 3 days of mixing. Cover unused liquid with cling film and store in a cool place or refrigerate overnight. After 3 days dispose of liquid.

Maintenance: Avoid water splashes during hardening period. After the surface is fully dry it can be rubbed with old towelling to increase sheen and durability or wax sealed. Clean stains and splashes with plain water & a little natural soap. Do not use harsh abrasives or chemicals.

Disposal: Do not pour ANY types of paint into drains and sewers. Liquid Naturepaint can be safely mixed with garden materials and composted, or left to dry and disposed of with household waste. Naturepaint pads can be peeled off, dried and, if you wish, returned to us for recycling or disposed of with household waste. You keep all the handles & backing plates for the next time you use Naturepaint.  Ask us for a special returns envelope.

Benefits of Naturepaint

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
Using Naturepaint means you don’t have to worry about paint smells and the impact of solvent fumes on your family. Or about increasing the amount of toxins and climate changing petrochemical compounds in your home, where the hidden effects of ‘off-gassing’ can remain for years to come.

NEW BEAUTIFUL PAINTS
Naturepaint is a revolutionary way to decorate your walls, ceiling and woodwork with beautiful colours in tough non-toxic, low-allergy, environmentally friendly paints. The various finishes of Naturepaint complement all parts of your home and furnishings and last for years to come.

NO DIFFICULTIES
Using some ecological coating products can be tricky, but with Naturepaint it couldn’t be simpler. All you need are normal kitchen utensils and a bowl or bucket. To make one litre of Naturepaint simply mix each pack with warm tap water. Then whisk vigorously and in 30 minutes you’re ready to start painting.

NO DISPOSAL PROBLEMS
Disposing of Naturepaint is easy too:  You won’t need to go to a designated Waste Handling Centre with messy paint tins and leftovers. Any liquid Naturepaint you don’t use can be simply added to garden compost or left to dry, and then put out with normal household rubbish.

EASIEST APPLICATION
You can apply Naturepaint with any suitable brushes or paint rollers. Or for maximum coverage in less time apply Naturepaint with our special recyclable paint pads and applicators.

NATURAL FOR YOUR HOME
Naturepaint is a ‘breathable’ paint that prevents the build up of trapped moisture and allows walls to react naturally to changes in the environment. There are many different effects you can create, such as glazes; stencils or eggshell and silk-gloss wood finishes, with Naturepaint products.

AVOIDING ALLERGIES
Unlike many other paints, you can easily check for family allergic reactions because the ingredients are all on our fact sheets.

ECONOMICAL AND SAFE TO STORE
Naturepaint is the ecological paint that comes in small convenient ready-to-use dry powder sachets. You only use as much as you need, and the rest can be safely stored in a dry place for years.

WE’LL EVEN RECYCLE FOR YOU…
We make Naturepaint with the environment, safety & your convenience in mind. Whilst Naturepaint presents no known hazards you can if you wish return dried paint pads or empty packaging to us for recycling. Ask us for our special envelopes for safe returns.
